Local diners and longtime fans have flooded social media with memories of the interactive dining experience. Here is a breakdown of why the beloved fondue spot is closing and what is coming next to the massive Route 38 property.
Why is The Melting Pot Closing?
According to local reports, the decision to close the restaurant stemmed from real estate, not a lack of business. The restaurant's ownership chose not to renew the lease on the 6,500-square-foot property located at 584 Route 38 East. Instead of relocating within the immediate Maple Shade area, the franchise has decided to exit the market permanently.
What is Replacing the Restaurant?
The prominent building will not stay vacant for long. A brand-new concept has already leased the space: Istanbul Bay Premium Mediterranean Turkish Restaurant.
Taking over the expansive footprint, Istanbul Bay is expected to bring a completely new culinary direction to the corridor, swapping out bubbling cheese and chocolate fondue pots for authentic Turkish cuisine and Mediterranean dishes.
What to Do With Your Gift Cards
If you currently have unused Melting Pot gift cards, there is no need to panic. Melting Pot gift cards don't expire, and because the company operates as a massive national franchise, your balances will remainvalid at any other location.
While the Maple Shade restaurant will close at the end of October, South Jersey and Philadelphia-area fans can still get their fondue fix with a short drive. Following this closure, the closest remaining Melting Pot locations in the region are:
- King of Prussia, Pennsylvania
- Wilmington, Delaware
- Red Bank, New Jersey
