National HIV Testing Day, June 27th, serves as encouragement for people of all ages and backgrounds to get tested for HIV. According to the CDC, an overwhelming estimate of 1.1 million, 14% of which have undiagnosed HIV in the US. The CDC recommends that all people, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, between the ages of 13 and 64 receive HIV testing at least once in their life as part of a regular health checkup.

People with specific risk factors should increase testing to once a year. National HIV Testing Day promotes health and wellness in the community by encouraging people to go out and get tested on June 27th.

“Each year, on June 27, we observe National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). On this day, we unite with partners, health departments, and other organizations to raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing and early diagnosis of HIV” Says Executive Director Kevin Burns, “People living with HIV can achieve Wellness when they have access to good primary care, medication, housing, and support! All of us at Action Wellness encourage everyone to get tested, know your HIV status and if you are HIV positive, access the services you need to achieve and maintain WELLNESS”.
