Winter Fun at Philadelphia's Franklin Square

PHIALDEPHIA - Historic Philadelphia, Inc. (HPI) invites visitors to immerse themselves in the enchantment of Winter in Franklin Square, where a delightful blend of old and new traditions awaits. From now until February 25, 2024, Franklin Square undergoes a remarkable transformation, turning into a captivating winter wonderland that offers an array of activities and entertainment suitable for all ages.

As the sun sets, guests can delight in the mesmerizing Electrical Spectacle Light Show presented by PECO, which is absolutely free of charge. This spectacular display of lights, inspired by Benjamin Franklin's revolutionary electrical discovery, illuminates the Square every 30 minutes from 5 pm until closing. To add to the cozy ambiance, visitors can gather around the inviting fire pits, sipping on steaming hot beverages and indulging in delectable seasonal food favorites, some of which even come in spiked versions for adults seeking a little extra warmth.

One exciting and brand-new addition to Winter in Franklin Square is the Franklin Square Street Curling. Channeling the spirit of the Olympic team sport, this fun adaptation takes place on an elevated platform. Two teams can compete against each other, skillfully sliding "stones" across the specially designed curling surface aiming to reach the target. For groups of up to 8 players, sessions can be booked at a cost of $40 per session.

Another highlight of the winter festivities is the renowned Chilly Philly Mini Golf, transforming Center City's only miniature golf course into a magical winter wonderland. Each hole features meticulously crafted reproductions of iconic Philadelphia landmarks, ensuring a truly immersive experience. Both day and evening sessions are available for play. Ticket prices for Chilly Philly Mini Golf are $15 for adults and $12 for children, with complimentary admission for children under the age of 2.

During the daytime, visitors can continue to enjoy the winter fun with activities such as playing 18 holes of mini golf, taking a ride on the Parx Liberty Carousel, and savoring comforting and delicious food at the SquareBurger. Additionally, Franklin Square boasts two vibrant playgrounds where children can slide, swing, and climb to their heart's content.

Franklin Square warmly welcomes visitors daily through January 7, 2024, from 10 am to 9 pm. From January 11 to February 25, the park is open Thursday to Sunday between 10 am and 7 pm, with additional holiday Mondays on January 15 and February 12. The nighttime festivities commence at 5 pm and continue until closing, weather conditions permitting. Be sure to join us and experience the magic and joy of Winter in Franklin Square!
